Hey guys! Just wanted to show you my latest creation from an Ana White plan!
The original plan does not include a mirror, but my bedroom doesn't have one so I changed it up a bit.
I used the same outline she did, but changed the measurements to accommodate my mirror. For the earring holder, I used a piece of screen I picked up at the hardware store. For the ring holder, I used the felt method I found here (via pinterest, of course). I opted to not have a handle on the front since the cabinet is over 4 feet long and just put a medicine cabinet style magnet on the inside to keep it closed.

Kitchen Drawer Organizers
Anyone familiar with Ana White? She is fabulous. She designs and builds furniture and then puts the plans on her blog. Look at her work - she's my hero. I decided I really wanted to learn woodworking so I got started with a simple plan - something I needed anyway. Her wood drawer organizers were the perfect solution! I decided to do both my top drawer (the regular eating utensil drawer) and my second drawer, which holds some cooking tools of mine. I drew up the plans for both of the drawers and then went shopping.
It came out that I was going to need around 15ish feet total for both drawers so I went to Lowe's and picked up 2 1x3s (they generally sell in 8 foot lengths). I gave my husband the list of lengths I needed for each drawer side and he cut the wood for me. I then sanded each piece, which was not fun when you have tiny hands and the palm sander is much larger than your palm. Sanding is definitely necessary though - it gets rid of rough edges or anything that might splinter in the future. Plus, it looks much nicer.
Unsanded vs. Sanded
I used a countersink drill bit and screwed the pieces together, then I filled the holes with wood filler and used a stain/poly combination by Minwax to seal the wood. Then, I screwed the whole thing inside the drawer. I love them and am excited to start my next project!

Thomas
My little buddy passed yesterday. I miss him already and I'm inconsolable, but I know it was the right thing to do. Rest in peace, my darling Thomas. You will always be in my heart. November 15, 1998 - March 6, 2013

Tilt front Drawer
We have a standard builder's grade kitchen with no special custom work. We were in Lowe's and discovered that you can install these special hinges on your false drawer in front of the sink to make it tilt out. It only cost about $18 for two trays and two sets on hinges. I love it already. We also put one in the bathroom.
